Food has always been the cornerstone of family and friendship in my life.
Born and raised in Israel off the beautiful coastline city of Haifa, growing up was a continual feast of culture and food. Surrounded by a variety of cooking styles and authentic delicious dishes, my family gathered daily in our kitchen and shared more than just the food on the table. It was both a bonding and healing experience.
My passion for quality food began early in life for this very reason. My mother loved to experiment with cooking and baking and brought us weekly to local farmers markets to find fresh produce and unique spices. I can still smell the freshly ground sumac and za’atar, bright mint leaves and red cheek tomatoes that were picked just a few hours earlier. It was those very ingredients that sparked my love for cooking. They had a story to tell; It was the story of the land and the people who grew them.
Years later, having come to the United States and experienced a much faster, fuel-driven approach to consumption, I saw an opportunity to bring my cultural culinary roots to the American lifestyle. I was searching for ingredients that represented my ancestors’ heritage and found that sesame was the missing ingredient in the American diet. Dating back 4000 years to Babylon and Assyria, it has been used in a variety of different ways from medicinal remedies to a key nutritional component in the kitchen. And so Sesame Kingdom was born.
Back home in my kitchen, I started experimenting with flavor combinations of ground sesame seeds and Mediterranean energizing fruits. My goal was to create a food that could be shared with family and friends that was not only appetizing, but free of preservatives, refined sugar, gluten, dairy, and nuts. The result was a delicious collection of naturally sweet Mediterranean superfoods that could be spread on breads, used as dips or drizzled on just about anything. Each flavor as unique and special, as the rich history of food and culture I was raised on.
To us, Sesame Kingdom is a commitment to sharing a cultural experience that is joyful, delicious and above all nutritious.
